In addition to serving as our Legal Assistant and Paralegal, Karen Sultan is our Office Manager, Bookkeeper, and general Office Guru. She has been with Hite Kaminsky Family Law & Mediation, PLLC (formerly Law Offices of Kelly S. Hite) since 2006. She is a member of the Paralegal Section of the Fairfax Bar Association and has completed numerous CLEs related to both family law and technology. Karen is the Continuing Paralegal Education Coordinator for the Paralegal Section for 2018-2019. She is also a notary public.
Karen received a B.A. in English and Anthropology from Oberlin College in 1990. She received a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Indiana University in 1997. As an Assistant Professor, Karen taught undergraduate and graduate courses in both Anthropology and Women’s Studies. She was an advisor for both undergraduate and graduate majors, presented papers at a variety of professional conferences, and served on far too many committees to count. Over the years, she received numerous grants for her own research, as well as for collaborative research projects. Her past research projects include factors affecting how international students from China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong handle personal and emotional crises while residing on a U.S. campus, and women’s use of the courts and child support laws in the Caribbean.
In 2006, Karen moved back East to seek treatment for chronic lyme disease and to be closer to family. Her sharp attention to detail and the analytical, administrative, and communication skills she honed as an academic are put to good use for our clients in the legal environment.
